Makeitwood started as a hobby, is fuelled by passion for wood and design and turned into an obsession to bring quality hand crafted items to market for all to enjoy.

My story starts many years ago in a middle class northern suburb of Cape Town, those days there were not many subjects to choose from and I unexpectedly found myself in a woodworking class, draughting technical drawings and bringing those same drawings to life. I cannot recall (or imagine) a time when I didn’t have a workbench and/or wasn’t making something from wood since.

After school I pursued a career in sales and retail, but eventually find myself in construction and using my hands to earn my keep. Some years after I found my way back to my other passion: design, and worked my way around the creative/publishing industry and, as the world became more digitally orientated, stumbled into the world of web design from where my path led to e-commerce.

Still the itch (and the small work bench in the tiny kitchen of my small flat) was there … with the imminent arrival of my baby daughter looming large in my future, it was time to roll up my sleeves and start making furniture for her room. There seemed to be no end to the projects and never enough space for the growing collection of woodworking equipment in my garage.

Which brings us to the present where all things seemed to have converged – sales/retail, design, woodworking, e-commerce … all wrapped up neatly in this bundle which is my corner of the WWW.
